Bone augmentation
Bone augmentation is necessary when there is not enough bone in your mouth to hold an implant on the spot where you will need the implant to be placed in. The cause may be a gum desease, injury or trauma, a development defect or that your jawbone is too short or narrow – or both. In these cases you need to have bone added to the jaw before the implant is placed in.

Bone augmentation around the implant
Bone augmentation is a term used to describe a variety of procedures that are used to "build” bone.
There are several options you can and should discuss with your dentist regarding their risks and benefits.
There are several synthetic materials used for the purpose as well as your own bone that is the best option of all.
Sinus lift
Is a type of bone augmentation. This procedure increases the hight of your upper jaw by filling part of your maxillary sinus with bone. Maxillary sinus is the area above your jaw on either side of the nose.
This operation takes place in the dentist's surgery. It is necessary if there isn't enough bone to hold an implant in the back of the upper jaw.
